2025-03-04 - The project has now started !
ESA Upperdyn project has formally been started, with the kick-off meeting held in November 2024. The project will last 3 years. The main objective is to enhance the understanding, the monitoring and the phasing forecast of upper ocean currents, with a particular focus on the most intense ocean small-scale structures.
The first year is dedicated to the algorithm development and the production of demonstration products.
2025-06-03 - The project has progressed onboard the Stadsraad Laehkuhl
Several members of the project have been involved in the ESA Ocean Training course OTC25 organisation and the lecturing onshore and now onboard for 44 days and in particular Florian Le Guillou from DATLAS has made some progress on the developpement of the geostrophic Vardyn ocean current starting from either the constellation of nadir altimeter but aslo including SWOT. These progress onboard have fed a custom 5 days forcasting system running onshore over the full voyage from Tromso to Nice via Reykjavik, transmitting its results onboard and helping to conduct some adaptive planning of the route and stations, with the meteorological constraint of a sailing ship.
